Police decline to discuss Fresno City Council candidate Naindeep Singh’s DUI arrest
· The Fresno BeeFresno officers are declining to provide basic details of city council candidate Naindeep Singh’s arrest on Saturday after the police department shared the news Sunday evening.
Fresno police spokesperson Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said Singh, 43, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug. Authorities had not released an official toxicology report as of Monday morning.
The Bee inquired where exactly Singh — a trustee for Central Unified and executive director of The Jakarta Movement — was pulled over, as well as the reason for the traffic stop.
Trueba Vega declined to share any more information, and Lt. Brian Pierce questioned in a text message why The Bee was continuing to inquire about the arrest.
Singh was not booked into the Fresno County Jail, records show.
As the public awaits release of the police department’s official toxicology report, a separate, independent drug screen report has begun circulating. According to the report, which is unverified and has not been confirmed by Singh or his campaign, the city council candidate was screened for illicit drugs at Community Regional Medical Center on Sunday. The results all came back negative, according to the report.
“This is a screening test. Positive results are not confirmed. The results of this testing should be used only for medical treatment purposes,” the circulating report reads.
Singh has not responded to phone calls from The Bee, and representatives for Central Unified haven’t commented. Fresno County District Attorney Andrew Janz did not respond to The Bee’s request for more information.
