Utah postal carriers deliver donations for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

SALT LAKE CITY — Mail carriers participated in one of the largest single-day food drives in the country Saturday. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive was organized by postal worker unions and in partnership with the Utah Food Bank.

Utahns might have noticed the blue bags attached to their mail boxes this week. Thousands of families filled those bags, then placed them by their mailboxes Saturday where they were picked up by mail carriers along their normal route.

This was the 34th annual event, and the Utah Food Bank said it's become a staple of the summer months as schools close for the summer.

"Families will see those ever so tight food budgets being stretched even more. This is crucial," explained Ginette Bott, president and CEO of the Utah Food Bank.

Utahns who may have forgotten to fill their bags Saturday can still participate. Post offices will accept donations through Monday and donations can always be accepted at local food pantries.
