PROVO — A Vineyard man in his 20s is dead after crashing his motorcycle in Provo Canyon, police said Wednesday.

The crash has prompted an hourslong closure of the road.

The motorcyclist was traveling east on U.S. 189 (Provo Canyon) near Vivian Park just before 7:30 p.m, when he crashed into the center median barrier, was then thrown from his bike and landed in the westbound lanes, according to Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva.

"The rider was traveling too fast and unable to maintain control of his bike," Silva said.

The man died of his injuries.

Eastbound lanes of Provo Canyon will be closed for up to an hour, according to UHP.
