Notre Dame-USC to renew football rivalry in 2030 with four-game series
by Alex Butler · UPIAug. 3 (UPI) -- Notre Dame and USC will renew their football rivalry with a four-game series, starting in 2030, the schools announced Monday.
The Fighting Irish and Trojans met 96 times since the storied series started in 1926. Notre Dame has a 53-38-5 record in the series, which includes three vacated results. It also won seven of the last eight meetings, including the last three.
The Irish Beat the Trojans 34-24 on Oct. 18 in Notre Dame, Ind. Their next matchup will be in Week 1 -- on Aug. 31, 2030 -- in Los Angeles. The Trojans will face the Irish in another Week 1 meeting Aug. 30, 2031 at Notre Dame.
Additional 2032 (in Los Angeles) and 2033 (at Notre Dame) meetings will be heldwithin the first three weeks of those seasons.
Previous meetings between the Irish and Trojans occurred later in the season. The series featured very rare hiatuses, including for three years during World War II and another during the COVID-19 pandemic. The schools had failed to reach an agreement in December to extend the series for 2026 and beyond.
"USC's historic rivalry with Notre Dame holds a special place in the history of college football, and we are happy to resume a series that means so much to the entire Trojan Family," Trojans athletic director Jen Cohen said in a news release.
"It remains important for us to play this game early in the season, as it allows us to schedule competitively with our Big Ten peers and takes into account the health and best interests of our student-athletes and program.."
The Irish will meet Wisconsin in their 2026 season opener Sept. 6 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Trojans will host San Jose State on Aug. 29 in Los Angeles.
