Feb. 19 (Asia Today) -- South Korea's presidential office said Thursday it had no comment after a court sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to life in prison on charges of leading an insurrection tied to his failed martial law bid in December 2024.

Presidential spokesperson Kim Nam-joon told a briefing at the Chunchugwan press center that there was "nothing to say" about the first-instance ruling or the government's reaction, according to the presidential office.

Kim also said there was no separate response to disclose from President Lee Jae-myung regarding Yoon's sentencing.

The Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 25, presided over by Judge Ji Gwi-yeon, handed down the life sentence. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty.
