Dallas Cowboys claim RB Emari Demercado off waivers
by Alex Butler · UPIAug. 31 (UPI) -- The Dallas Cowboys claimed former Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado off waivers, the NFL announced Monday through its transaction wire.
The Kansas City Chiefs, who signed Demercado in March, waived the three-year veteran Sunday ahead of the league deadline to trim rosters to 53 players.
Demercado, 27, totaled a career-high 413 yards from scrimmage, including 312 rushing yards, and a touchdown over 13 appearances last season for the Cardinals.
He totaled 1,143 yards from scrimmage and four scores over 40 appearances for the Cardinals. The 2023 undrafted free agent signing also worked on special teams, including as a kick return, during his time with the Cardinals.
He will join a Cowboys running backs room that features Malik Davis and Hunter Luepke behind starter Javonte Williams. The Cowboys waived running back Jaydon Blue as part of their roster cut. Blue, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, logged 134 yards from scrimmage and a score over five appearances last season.
The Cowboys will face the New York Giants in their regular season opener at 8:20 p.m. EDT Sept. 13 in East Rutherford, N.J.
