Maryland man follows a gut feeling to $100,000 lottery prize
by Ben Hooper · UPIAug. 10 (UPI) -- A Maryland man said he followed his gut instinct about a particular scratch-off lottery ticket and ended up collecting a $100,000 prize.
The Prince George's County man told Maryland Lottery officials he stopped at the Wawa store in Capitol Heights and bought a Bingo scratch-off ticket, his favorite game, and a Scratch & Match ticket that set off his intuition.
"You know, some tickets call out to you," the player said. "Well, it was something about the Scratch & Match game that drew me to it."
The man was scratching the ticket off at home later when he revealed two "stack of cash" instant win symbols, and soon realized each was a $50,000 prize.
"I was shocked when I saw the first $50,000 prize and blown away when I saw the other $50,000," he said.
A scan at a local lottery retailer confirmed to the man and his wife that he had really won $100,000.
The winner said his prize money will go toward paying bills and helping his family.
