49ers owner Jed York arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution

Aug. 24 (UPI) -- San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution, Columbiana County (Ohio) court records show.

The East Palestine Police Department arrested York on Sunday. On Monday, he pleaded no contest to an amended charge of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. York paid $1,150 in fines for those misdemeanor charges.

He also was sentenced to one day in jail for each charge.

According to a police report obtained by WKBN, police assisted the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force on York's arrest. The arrest occurred at 9:35 a.m. EDT Sunday at Wheat Hill Mobile Home Park in East Palestine.

"As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time," the 49ers said in a statement.

An NFL spokesman said the league plans to review the matter under the terms of its personal conduct policy. York, 46, is a Youngstown, Ohio native. He became CEO of the 49ers in 2008 and took over as principal owner in 2024.

York's mother, Denise DeBatrtolo York, and her husband, John, took ownership control of the 49ers in 2000.

Her brother, former 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr., stepped away from the team in 1997 after being involved in a Louisiana gambling probe. He later pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony after facing allegations that he paid former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards $400,000 in exchange for his help to acquire a riverboat casino license.

The NFL issued a $1 million fine and one-year suspension to DeBartolo, who avoided a prison sentence by agreeing to testify against Edwards.

Edwards was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in 2001 after being convicted of racketeering and extortion in relation to the riverboat casino license scheme.

He was released in 2011 after serving eight years, which he was allowed to complete in home detention. He died in 2021 at age 93.

President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to DeBartolo in 2020.
