Running back Miles Sanders faces DUI charge from June arrest

Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Free agent running back Miles Sanders faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving stemming from a off-season arrest, Pennsylvania court records show.

Sanders was arrested June 8 in Churchill Borough, a residential suburb of Pittsburgh.

"This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment," said Sanders' attorney, Phil DiLucente.

Allegheny County court records show that charges against Sanders were filed Aug. 20. He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 23, but the case was continued to Oct. 28.

Sanders, 29, signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys last off-season. He totaled a career-low 147 yards from scrimmage and a score over four appearances.

Sanders landed on season-ending injured reserve in October due to knee and ankle injuries.

The seven-year veteran totaled a career-high 1,347 yards from scrimmage and 11 scores in 2022 to earn a Pro Bowl nod while with the Philadelphia Eagles. He then signed a four-year, $25 million contract the next off-season with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers released Sanders last off-season.

Sanders, 29, entered the league as a second-round pick by the Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII in his final season with the franchise, but Philadelphia lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sanders was a star at Churchill Borough's Woodland Hills High School and played at Penn State before joining the Eagles.
