South Dakota trust claims $78M lotto jackpot days before expiration
by Wade Sheridan · UPIMay 12 (UPI) -- A trust company located in South Dakota has claimed a $78 million lottery jackpot from Texas just days before the ticket was set to expire.
Jua-Ri Trust Agreement Trident Trust Company Inc. located in Sioux Falls, S.D., claimed the jackpot on May 8, just six days before the winning ticket was set to expire.
The original drawing took place on Nov. 15, 2025. The trust company selected the cash value option and walked away with $43,757,223 and 10 cents before taxes.
The winning ticket contained all six of the numbers drawn, 7-17-23-28-39-48. The ticket was purchased at Gordon's Bait & Tackle located in Brownsville, Texas.
Lottery rules state that a winning ticket holder forfeits any prize after the 180th day following the draw date.
The deadline was May 14. If the winning ticket was not claimed, the Texas Legislature would have redistributed the prize money.
