Met Office issues yellow weather warning for ice in Birmingham as temperatures plummet to -3C

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice in Birmingham and across the West Midlands with temperatures set to plummet to -3C. A frosty and icy start was widespread this morning, Wednesday, November 20.

The weather warning is in place until 10am and follows a light snowfall overnight. It follows snow flurries overnight on Monday into Tuesday, yesterday, causing schools to close and disruption on the roads.

The Met Office said today, Wednesday, November 20: "Today: A frosty and icy start to the morning. Remaining mostly dry with plenty of sunshine, though a few wintry showers may drift into northern counties. Feeling chilly in a brisk northerly wind. Maximum temperature 5C.

"Tonight: Isolated wintry showers continue in the north during the evening, which may lead to icy stretches by dawn. Showers fading overnight with winds easing. Becoming widely frosty. Minimum temperature -3C.

"Thursday: Cloud building, though brightness poking through at times. Rain perhaps spreading into southern counties during the day but staying dry in the north. Cold again but lighter winds than Wednesday. Maximum temperature 5C.

"Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Frosty start to Friday with wintry showers easing and turning increasingly sunny. Becoming wet and windy into the weekend, perhaps with hill snow for a time, but also turning milder."
