Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, shared a nostalgic photo with his bandmates before his untimely death.

At 31, Liam was found dead in a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Just weeks prior to this tragic event, he had taken to Instagram to post an image with his One Direction colleagues.

His last Instagram update turned out to be a heartfelt homage to the late American documentary filmmaker, writer, and TV producer Morgan Spurlock.

The picture showed Liam standing with Morgan Spurlock, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. Accompanying the snapshot, Liam's caption read: "Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you."

Following the devastating news of his passing, fans inundated the post with their condolences, reports the Mirror.

Devastated followers expressed their disbelief, with one commenting: "Please don't tell me he passed away." Another pleaded for clarity: "tell me it's not true," while another simply wrote: "rip liam."

Payne rose to fame as a member of the pop group One Direction, which was formed on the X Factor. He first appeared on the ITV talent show in 2008, auditioning as a solo artist.

Despite not making it through initially, he returned to audition for the 2010 series, where he was grouped with Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, leading to the formation of one of the most successful boy bands in history.

The ex-One Direction star, enjoying a Buenos Aires break with partner Kate Cassidy, tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel. According to La Nacion, the 31 year old took the fall from a building in Palermo's posh district.

The discovery of a body on the hotel's interior patio prompted staff to alert the authorities.

Alberto Crescenti, a spokesperson for the city ambulance service, confirmed that the man had fallen about 40 metres and sustained "severe injuries which were incompatible with life."

In comments made to TN, the head of the local ambulance team stated: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel."

He further added: "At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."

Lately, Liam had been sharing his Argentina journey online, including attending a gig by Niall, another One Direction alumnus. Liam rose to international fame at just 16 when he joined what would become the world's biggest boyband.
