Boxing legend Mike Tyson has been ranked 309 in BoxRec's heavyweight rankings after his comeback fight against social media personality Jake Paul. The 58 year old former undisputed world champion made a surprise return to the ring on Friday, facing the 27 year old YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Despite being dominated throughout the fight, Tyson avoided a knockout defeat, ultimately losing on points. Following the bout, Tyson took to Twitter, expressing his gratitude for the experience and revealing his remarkable recovery from a life-threatening health scare in June, which included eight blood transfusions and a 25-pound weight loss.

Tyson wrote: "This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I'm grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time."

"I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you."

After experiencing a setback in his latest bout, Tyson has found himself positioned at number 309 in the new heavyweight rankings, trailing 183 spots behind influencer-turned-boxer Paul. The 58 year old boxing icon is just three places above Terrell Jamal Woods, who has secured only a single victory in his last 15 matches, sporting a professional tally of 29 wins and 62 losses, reports the Mirror.

Numerous lesser-known boxers rank well above Tyson, including Peter 'The Problem' Naylor.

In contrast, after clinching a significant victory in Texas, Paul has ascended to the 126th spot globally. Reflecting on the match, where he admitted easing up during the battle, Paul commented: "Yeah, definitely, definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want [to hurt him]. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt somebody that didn't need to be hurt."

Though the fight left certain spectators dissatisfied, with some even exiting the AT&T Stadium prior to the verdict being disclosed, it continues to stir considerable buzz post-event. In the wake of Paul's display, none other than Artur Beterbiev, the reigning undisputed light-heavyweight world champion, issued a challenge.

Posting on Instagram on Saturday, Beterbiev laid down the gauntlet to Paul, "@jakepaul what can you do in ring against the current undisputed champion? " adding, "Just know that I'm always open to any suggestions."

On Saturday, it was revealed that over 60 million households tuned in to watch the main event on Netflix, leading to several crashes of the streaming platform. The fight's gate revenue exceeded $18m (£14m), doubling the previous Texas record for combat sports in both boxing and MMA, and surpassing Canelo Alvarez's record of $9m (£7m).
