Rulani & Pyramids carry winning form to CAFCL

Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC secured a 2-0 win over Gor Mahia in the first-leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round on Sunday afternoon.

Following their failure to defend the title last season and exited in the quarter-finals at the hands of the eventual runners-up AS FAR Rabat, the Egyptian giants started their campaign keen to reclaim the title.

With Mokwena in the hot seat and a winning start domestically, the stage was set for the visitors who didn’t disappoint and got the job done with goals in the first half from Walid El Karti and Mahmoud Saber.

Mokwena will now take a healthy two-goal lead back to Egypt for the second leg next weekend.

Alger held in Niger

Algerian champions MC Alger started their journey with a gruelling goalless draw against Niger’s Nigelec on the road.

With their domestic campaign yet to get off the mark, Alger came on the back of a 3-1 loss to Al Shabab in a friendly while Nigelec enjoyed a run of four successive wins.

In the end, the two teams couldn’t be separated and will contest to second-leg in the Algerian capital with all to play for in the quest to reach the second preliminary round.

Barker's Simba secure away win

Simba SC began their journey back in the tournament in positive fashion and engineered a narrow 1-0 victory Mighty Wanderers in Blantyre.

Steve Barker's charges have been in fine form in domestic action, winning all five games but it was a tough outing against Wanderers.

The winner came late in the second half from Anicet Oura to hand coach Steve Barker a perfect start to the campaign.

Scottland FC enjoyed winning debut

Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC took a big step towards the next stage of the continent’s big club competition following a 1-0 victory over Nsingizini Hotspurs at home.

Neville Tenge got the all important wining goal for the home side in the second half.

Norman Mapeza's were prepared not to be overawed by the occasion and pushed over the line to stand in good stead for the return-leg in a week’s time.
