SEMI-FINAL DRAW: Chiefs & Bucs avoid each other!
by Kickoff writer · KickOffThe Carling Knockout semi-final fixtures have been decided as defending champions Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have avoided each other in the draw.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates advanced on Tuesday and Saturday respectively, while Kaizer Chiefs overcame Siwelele on Sunday.
In Cape Town, Stellenbosch took the lead four minutes to the half-hour mark against AmaZulu when a pin-point cross from the right by Raoul Daniels ventured in the area and picked out Chumani Butsaka who volleyed in the bottom-corner.
The Maroons saw their advantage cut short in the 33rd minute after Athini Maqokolo came in on the right to find Mlondi Mbanjwa who beat the presence of Given Msimango to tuck in off the post.
After an even half, Maqokolo went on another foray out wide early in the second half and tucked inside to tee-up Mbanjwa for a brace but the latter powered wide of the mark.
Stellenbosch, who battled to get settled and in their rhythm following the resumption, decided to go to the bench to effect a change of personnel and sacrificed Daniels for Daniel Matsheke.
Arthur Zwane’s boys still engineered the better of the chances, but were dealt a blow when Sinoxolo Kwayiba slotted in from the penalty spot in the last seconds to fulltime after a hand-ball by Taariq Fielies as the Maroons advanced to the last four.
