Arsenal on the brink of securing EPL title

by · KickOff

Arsenal are one win away from securing the Premier League title after defeating relegated-Burnley 1-0 on Monday night at the Emirates Stadium.

Fixture: Arsenal vs Burnley
Score: 1-0
Goalscorers: Havertz (37')

The Gunners entered the encounter high on confidence after securing a crucial 1-0 win away to West Ham United last weekend, as Mikel Arteta opted to hand starts to Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz in place of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyökeres, who dropped to the bench.

The hosts dominated from the onset and pushed for the early goal as Leandro Trossard went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the opening ten minutes with a thunderous strike that crashed against the upright.

The woodwork came to Burnley's rescue once again when Bukayo Saka weaved his way to the byline before launching a cross into the box that evaded the Burnley shot-stopper and hit the crossbar before the visitors were able to clear.

Arsenal would eventually get their reward in the 37th minute via one of their trademark corners when Havertz leaped above his marker to nod home Bukayo Saka's ball, sending the home supporters into a frenzy.

Second Half:

The Gunners carried the momentum into the second half and nearly bagged a second goal ten minutes in when Declan Rice raced into the box before picking out Eberiche Eze, who saw his goal-bound header blocked at the far post.

Burnley responded with a double change on 71 minutes as Hannibal Mejbri and Lesley Ugochukwu made way for Josh Laurent and Zeki Amdouni, while Arteta introduced Lewis-Skelly, Pierre Hincapie and Gyokeres a few minutes later.

With time running out, Arsenal continued to push for more goals as Trossard went close in the final ten minutes with a first-time volley from the edge of the box that sailed just over the crossbar.

The hosts were not made to rue those missed chances in the closing stages as they got over the line to secure maximum points, meaning they can be crowned champions on Tuesday if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
