Do Chiefs have experience to challenge for title?

Maboe made his 200th league appearance in Chiefs' 3-2 win over Siwelele on Sunday, since making his debut for Durban City (formerly Maritzburg United) in the 2016/17 season.

The 31-year-old has made a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, after also scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay almost two weeks ago.
Prior to their match against Masele, the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had his chest up, facing the media at the club's headquarters, after Amakhosi had dropped points for two successive matches.
As one of the experienced players, Maboe raised his hand and took responsibility that he has to make his teammates aware of the importance of collecting points early, if they are to stay in contention in a competitive league title race, following his experience from Sundowns.
In terms of league appearances, the former Maritzburg utility player is third in the list of players with most Premiership appearances, as Siphesihle Ndlovu has amassed 204 games while defender Zitha Kwinika, is at the top with 206 matches under his belt.
If experience proves to be vital for The Glamour Boys to mount a title challenge, as they went up to third in the standings, those are the only three players in the squad who have 200 or more league appearances.

The closest to them is Paseka Mako, who has featured in 179 league matches, most of whom came at former club Orlando Pirates, where he stayed for seven years before his switch to crosstown rivals in July 2025.
Completing the top five of players with the most Premiership matches at Chiefs is Reeve Frosler, who has played 165 games.
