Tinkler reveals 'good offer' behind Kotoko shock exit

Former Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler has revealed the real reason behind his shock resignation from Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko.

The South African coach parted ways with the Ghanaian giants after just four matches in charge, with reports now linking him with a return to Durban City.

Tinkler explains shock resignation

Tinkler confirmed that he had personally handed in his resignation, but stressed that the decision had already been made before Kotoko's 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC.

"You guys would have obviously been told this morning about me resigning in the statement that came out from the club. That is entirely true," Tinkler said.

"I have handed in my resignation, but very, very important to me, telling you, had nothing to do with performance, had nothing to do with the result yesterday."

According to the 54-year-old, he had made the decision last week, with Kotoko chairman Stanley Menzo aware of the situation.

"This was a decision I had already made last week and obviously the chairman, Stanley and myself, we have managed to keep that very quiet," he explained.

South Africa return on the cards

Tinkler revealed that the key factor behind his decision was an offer from a club in South Africa.

"The request was that I stay until this game, which is exactly what happened. So it had no reflection on the fact that we lost this match," he added.

"I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa and that is the main reason why I have made the decision that football, one day you're here, the next day you can be up there."

Tinkler's comments come amid reports that he is set to return to Durban City, with the Betway Premiership side expected to announce him soon.
