The deadline relating to Arkane Lyon's search for a new owner has been extended by one month, Microsoft confirmed.

The developer and Microsoft previously set a cut-off point of 13th November 2026, but that has now been extended to 13th December, as per comments from a representative: "We have extended the consultation period by one additional month as we explore options, including finding a partner to support the studio through the development work still ahead," PC Gamer was told.

The latter refers to the making of Marvel's Blade, which has spent many years in production with just a single trailer to its name, debuted almost three years ago.

"This is a defined extension, and we remain committed to keeping the Works Council informed throughout the process," the statement continued. As well as looking for a permanent home, Xbox wants to find a new partner to help finish the development of Blade. I doubt this would open the game to up to a multi-platform release on PS5, however.

Multiple teams exit Xbox Game Studios

A fan-favourite studio with a PlayStation presence since 2012, Arkane has produced the classic Dishonored series as well as PREY, Wolfenstein spin-offs, and the former PS5 console exclusive Deathloop.

While the studio has less than two months to be saved, it's said the team has multiple paths it can explore. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said last week that it has various routes "actively being explored" and he'd be "surprised if the studio is shut down".

Arkane was caught up in the recent round of Xbox layoffs and studio closures, which saw thousands of job losses confirmed alongside the end of Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs' tenure under Microsoft.

It makes sense, Microsoft are in a dire financial situation and cannot see through the development of Blade.🤦🏻

That's something at least - that next big video game crash seems to be coming all the more closer though 😔
