Golden Knights shut down Mammoth, will meet Ducks in second round
by Danny Webster / Las Vegas Review-Journal · Las Vegas Review-JournalSALT LAKE CITY — The Vegas Golden Knights are moving on to the second round after defeating the Utah Mammoth 5-1 in Game 6 at Delta Center on Friday.
The Knights will face the Anaheim Ducks in the conference semifinals for the first ever postseason meeting between the two Interstate-15 rivals.
Game 1 will be at T-Mobile Arena and no date has been announced for the opener.
Mitch Marner scored twice for his first goals of the playoffs, and Brett Howden scored for the third straight game. The Knights won three straight after trailing the series 2-1.
They won Games 4 and 5 in overtime, then wrapped up the series in convincing fashion in the sixth game.
Goaltender Carter Hart finished with 21 saves. He carried a shutout for nearly 48 minutes until Utah winger Kailer Yamamoto broke the shutout.
Colton Sissons scored his second goal of the series 1:58 after Yamamoto’s to restore the two-goal lead.
