The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a man during a fight in a shopping complex parking lot in the central Las Vegas Valley early Monday.

The shooting occurred at 4:02 a.m. in the 4100 block of South Maryland Parkway near Flamingo Road. Police Lt. Robert Price said dispatchers received several 911 calls at the time reporting a man had been shot.

“Upon their arrival (officers) located one male individual in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds,” Price said. “Those officers rendered aid until medical arrived and transported the individual to Sunrise Hospital where, unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased.”

Police said a man identified as 26-year-old Jordan Garcia, who was believed to be the shooter was taken into custody at the scene. A man wearing dark jeans and no shirt, in handcuffs, was observed by a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter being led to a police car before he was driven off.

Price said the two men appeared to know each other with Price saying “they might be roommates.” It was unclear what the men were fighting about, Price said.

The shooting took place directly in front of a popular tavern, the Dive Bar, 4110 S. Maryland Parkway. Multiple shell casing markers were in the parking lot directly in front of the bar.

As police processed the scene, six people sat alongside crime scene tape near the entry of the bar. One woman appeared distraught and was holding her head in her hands.

Price said the victim and suspect were at the complex to visit a business there, but he did not say whether the two were at the bar. Crime scene analysts were processing a large, newer model, white pickup truck at the crime scene.

Garcia faces one count of open murder and is due in court Tuesday morning, according to police and court records.
