Off-duty Metro officer injured in shooting in western Las Vegas

An off-duty Metropolitan Police Department officer was injured in a shooting Monday night in the western Las Vegas Valley, police said.

In a statement, the Metro said at about 8:45 p.m., police received a report of a shooting near a business in the 7600 block of West Cheyenne Avenue. Investigators determined the victim works as corrections officer with the department.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound and is in surgery, police said. The suspect remains outstanding, police said.
