Golden Knights defeat Kings in preseason opener under Ryan Craig

ONTARIO, Calif. — The Vegas Golden Knights opened their preseason slate with a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings at Toyota Arena on Saturday in coach Ryan Craig’s first game leading the NHL club.

The roster was more of what’s been Craig’s speed with players primarily from Henderson of the Amreican Hockey League.

It was a first chance for most of the former players of Craig to show where they are in their development.

Defenseman Viliam Kmec and forward Raphael Lavoie scored 52 seconds apart late in the first period. The Knights had been held to one shot through the first 18 minutes.

Forward Jackson Hallum scored twice in the third period, including the go-ahead goal with 5:31 left. He scored into an empty net with 1:23 to go.

Goaltender Adin Hill made 17 saves in his first start since April 9. Hill and playoff starter Carter Hart are expected to get two starts each during the preseason.
