About the Aces (4-1)
After losing by 33 points in the opener to the Phoenix Mercury, the Aces have rattled off four straight wins, mostly in comfortable fashion.
Their last game Sunday was tighter than they anticipated, but the Aces held on for an 85-84 win over the Atlanta Dream behind a game-winning basket from point guard Chelsea Gray with three seconds left.
Gray led the way with 21 points and six assists, while A’ja Wilson followed up her 45-point outing in Connecticut with 20 points and six rebounds. The 29-time Western Conference player of the week is averaging 25 points a game through five games.
Jackie Young, though, was held to 0-for-12 shooting. The star guard is shooting 35.4 percent from the floor to begin the season.
About the Sparks (2-3)
Los Angeles is coming off a 97-88 win over Phoenix on Thursday behind a dominant 27-point, 15-rebound performance from former Aces forward Dearica Hamby.
It’s the second time in two weeks the Aces and Sparks are playing, with the Aces dominating Los Angeles 105-78 in the Sparks’ first game of the season.
Los Angeles opened the year with four straight home games, going 1-3.
The constant is former Aces guard Kelsey Plum, who leads the Sparks in scoring at 24.6 points per game. She was held to under 20 points for the first time on Thursday, scoring 16 points but dishing seven assists.
This is the second game of a four-game road trip for Los Angeles. After this, the Sparks will have six days off before facing the Washington Mystics on May 29.
