More September storms may arrive in Las Vegas today

Las Vegas could see another round of rain Tuesday.

There’s a 40 percent chance of storms today, said Brian Planz of the National Weather Service office in Las Vegas, as a low-pressure system from the Pacific Ocean moves past the area. The system is pulling up moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Odalys, creating the chances for storms.

Planz said the valley “can’t rule out a rumble of thunder” in the afternoon. Expect highs in the low 80s, about eight degrees below normal.

On Monday, Harry Reid International Airport recorded 0.23 inches of rain, its wettest day since February. Large portions of the valley saw at least a little bit of rain in the evening.

Weak monsoon season

The monsoon season, which began in late June and lasts through September, has been almost nonexistent for the valley during a very dry year.

Before Monday, the airport had registered traces of rain on Sept. 6 and Sept. 27, but it had seen no measurable rain this month. The average September precipitation for Las Vegas is 0.32 inches. In September 2025, the valley recorded 0.28 inches.

In August, the airport recorded 0.18 inches of rain (average is 0.32). Reid saw no measurable rain in July. On June 23, the airport recorded 0.02 inches of rain, breaking a rainless streak of 124 days. It was the only rainfall of the month.

Reid has registered just under an inch of precipitation so far in 2026. Las Vegas receives about four inches of rain in an average calendar year.
