LETTER: Rosen and Cortez Masto need to put country first

by · Las Vegas Review-Journal

I am astounded that Nevada’s two U.S. senators, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, are directly harming travel to our state in a temper tantrum over funding of federal law enforcement officers who have worked so hard, under such trying circumstances, to send those that have entered our great country illegally back home.

It is also hard to comprehend that they are keeping hard-working TSA officers unpaid, which will limit travel to Nevada, cutting the tourism lifeline to our state. In a time of a war aimed at eliminating the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, the fact that they are not funding the Coast Guard, the TSA, ICE and so many important other sections of the Department of Homeland Security is astounding.

Nevadans sent our senators to Washington, D.C., to work through these issues productively, not to shut down parts of the government that are critical to the country as a whole and to the economy of our state. It is time to our two senators put country (and state) over party.
