Suspected impaired driver, 31, dies after crashing into multiple fixed objects, Las Vegas police say
by Caitlin Lilly / Las Vegas Review-Journal · Las Vegas Review-JournalA 31-year-old suspected impaired driver died after his vehicle crashed into multiple fixed objects early Sunday morning in the southeast Las Vegas Valley, according to police.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that the crash occurred at 3:42 a.m. Sunday on South Eastern Avenue, north of East Eldorado Lane.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that a 2021 Jeep Compass was traveling northbound on Eastern Avenue and failed to maintain its travel lane by striking the raised center median.
Police said the Jeep continued over the center median, crossed into southbound travel lanes, then struck the west curb of Eastern Avenue.
Authorities said that the Jeep then continued northbound along the west sidewalk of Eastern Avenue, striking several Vegas Valley Water District boxes and a large NV Energy wooden power pole.
The driver was transported to Sunrise Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Police noted that impairment was suspected in the crash.
