Update, Sept. 11: Congratulations to Johnny Valeriano of Eldorado High soccer for being voted the Las Vegas Review-Journal Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.

Johnny Valeriano, Eldorado boys soccer: 88 votes, 48.1%

Reese Leoncavallo, Green Valley cross country: 80 votes, 43.7%

Jacob Dushoff, Faith Lutheran football: 10 votes; 5.5%

Felix Romero, Clark football: 5 votes, 2.7%

It’s time to vote for the Nevada Preps boys prep athlete of the week.

This week’s poll features four players who posted standout performances during the week of Aug. 31-September 5.

Voting will close at noon Thursday. Results will be reported on Friday.

Here are this week’s nominees:

Jacob Dushoff, Faith Lutheran football: The senior threw just one pass Friday, but it was an 80-yard game-winner to Mello Carter late in the fourth quarter of the Crusaders’ 35-31 win over Damien (California). With the big play, Dushoff has completed half of his two passes this season.

Reese Leoncavallo, Green Valley cross country: The senior completed his 2.5-mile race in 13 minutes, 40 seconds Saturday to win the Palo Verde Labor Day Classic at Desert Breeze Park . The Gators finished second as a team behind Shadow Ridge.

Felix Romero, Clark football: The junior running back carried 12 times for 90 yards and four TDs Friday as the Chargers routed Boulder City 41-6. He is averaging 133 yards per game this season with 11 TDs.

Johnny Valeriano, Eldorado boys soccer: The senior goalkeeper had three critical saves to record the shutout for the Firehawks in their 2-0 win over Faith Lutheran Tuesday. He has 37 saves and five shutouts on the season.
