Rob Reiner and his wife's official cause of death revealed

Rob Reiner and his wife Michele’s official cause of death has been revealed.

The beloved filmmaker and his wife, Michele, were found dead by their daughter, Romy, at their home in Los Angeles on Sunday evening.

The couple had suffered fatal stab wounds, and their 32-year-old son Nick has since been charged with their murder.

Three days after their deaths, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined they died of multiple sharp force injuries.

The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Jake and Romy Reiner, two of the children shared by Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, have since released a statement in the wake of their parents’ killings.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the siblings said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

“The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” the statement continued.

“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Hours after their bodies were found, Rob and Michele’s 32-year-old son Nick was located by police and arrested near the University of Southern California campus at about 9.15pm.

Nick has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation of using a knife.

If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Alongside Romy and Nick, Rob and Michele were also parents to their eldest son Jake, 34.

The Reiner family are highly respected in Hollywood, and the news of their deaths has rocked the entertainment industry.

District Attorney Hochman said: “Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes.”

“Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife’s murder more than 35 years ago, Michele Singer Reiner’s murder, are shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.”

Mr Hochman stated that the charges carry the maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

Still, he added that no decision had been made concerning the death penalty.

When Nick Reiner was apprehended hours later in the Exposition Park neighbourhood, close to the University of Southern California, around four miles from the crime scene, he did not resist, according to the police.

He was supposed to appear in court for the first time earlier on Tuesday, but according to his lawyer, he was not transported from jail to the courthouse due to medical reasons.
