Fort Worth teenager killed in overnight drive-by shooting
Family says the 15-year old was killed when someone suddenly shot into their home early Thursday morning
by Alanna Quillen, Larry Collins · 5 NBCDFWPolice are investigating a deadly drive‑by shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy inside his southwest Fort Worth home early Thursday morning.
Police were called to the 6700 block of Glenbrook Lane around 1:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a juvenile male who had been shot while inside the residence, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The victim was taken to a local hospital by Fort Worth Fire crews, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:22 a.m. Police said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide and appears to be a drive‑by.
After the scene was cleared later in the morning, NBC 5 spoke with the victim’s father, James Washington, who identified his son as Prince Semaj Washington, a 15‑year‑old student and basketball player at nearby South Hills High School.
“He was a great kid who didn’t do anything to anyone,” Washington said. “He had no enemies with anybody.”
Washington said he and his son were the only two people living in the home and had moved there just three months ago. He said he has no idea who would have carried out the shooting and worries the home may have been targeted because of previous tenants.
“I got no enemies with anyone,” Washington said. “It makes no sense for something like this to happen. And it needs to stop.”
Police have not released information about possible suspects or a motive and have not announced any arrests. Homicide detectives remain actively investigating, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
According to Washington, Prince had a deep love for basketball from a young age and dreamed of continuing with the sport.
“When he was a baby, you give him a basketball, he would stop crying,” Washington said. “Basketball was his heart. That’s what he was striving for.”
Washington said his son was well‑known and well‑liked at school.
“You can ask anyone at South Hills School,” he said. “Prince was a great kid.”
Neighbors in the area told NBC 5 they were shaken by the shooting. One neighbor said her doorbell camera captured the sound of gunshots inside the quiet residential neighborhood.
For Washington, the loss has left him frightened and unsure about staying in the home.
“There’s trouble everywhere, but we do nothing to nobody to deserve this,” he said. “I don’t want to be here anymore. I just really don’t.”
Police are urging anyone who may have information about the shooting to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817‑392‑4330.
