Rob Reiner and his wife's cause of death revealed
The medical examiner's report came hours after Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, made a brief court appearance.
by Helen Jeong · 5 NBCDFWThe deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were caused by a sharp object, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday.
The coroner's office ruled the couple's manner of death was homicide, caused by "multiple sharp force injuries."
The report was consistent with the police's statement that the acclaimed filmmaker and his photographer wife were stabbed before their bodies were discovered Sunday afternoon.
The medical examiner's report came hours after Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, made a brief court appearance without entering a plea.
Nick Reiner, one of the three children of Rob and Michele Reiner, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The couple's other children Jake Reiner, 34, and Romy Reiner, 28, released a joint statement Wednesday "on the devastating loss of our parents" and asked for privacy while their grieve.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience," the statement said. "They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends. We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave."
