Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, hints at upcoming retirement: ‘Probably my last year'

Ronaldo played in his final World Cup for Portugal earlier this summer, scoring three goals in the tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo has a plan to end his soccer career.

The Portuguese star, 41, is winding down his historic run as one of the world's top players, and he's finally given a more firm timeline on when it will wrap up.

In an interview with Vogue published Sunday, Ronaldo said this season with Al-Nassr will likely be his final one.

"This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy," Ronaldo said.

"I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.

"Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one. And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I've earned -- what we've earned.

"Because after all it's been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice."

Ronaldo has had a busy summer already, and his eyes are clearly on the next chapter of his life.

He suited up for Portugal in his sixth and final World Cup in June. After netting three goals at the tournament, Ronaldo became the first player to score in six different World Cups.

Then, last week, Ronaldo and his longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony.

Al-Nassr's 2026-27 in the Saudi Pro League began with a 3-0 win over Al-Fateh on Saturday. Ronaldo did not play in the match, instead watching with his family from a suite in the stadium in Riyadh.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner started his career at Sporting CP before stints with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. He's been with Al Nassr since January 2023.
