The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) to procure BrahMos fire control systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.

The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. It falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, which covers equipment that is indigenously designed, developed and manufactured.

The project carries a minimum of 68 per cent indigenous content. The ministry said it would involve a range of Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and would generate employment over three years.

The ministry described the deal as a boost to India’s maritime security architecture and defence capabilities, and a significant step in efforts to indigenise advanced military technology.

BrahMos is the Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations and is fitted on several frontline warships. The supersonic missile can hit both land and sea targets from extended ranges with pinpoint accuracy, the ministry said.
