StepX Neo AI Phone Arrives Before Apple and OpenAI’s Rival Devices
by Matt Lawrence · OnMSFTThe StepX Neo AI phone has entered the spotlight while Apple and OpenAI remain caught in a legal dispute over technology linked to their upcoming AI devices. StepX now appears ready to gain an early lead with a phone built around system-wide AI features instead of traditional app-based controls.
The company has teased the Neo as an agentic smartphone powered by Step AOS and the built-in Amoo AI assistant. The software can complete tasks across different apps, respond to system commands, and handle everyday actions through direct AI interaction.
StepX Neo specifications
The StepX Neo will reportedly use either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, depending on the market. Buyers can expect 12GB or 16GB of RAM, along with a 6.78-inch display available in 1.5K and 2K resolution options.
The phone also includes a secondary display on the rear panel, which can show notifications and provide quick access to AI controls. Its premium camera model reportedly carries three 50MP sensors, while a 5,500mAh battery supports 100W wired charging.
StepX has not confirmed the launch date or price, so several key details remain unknown. The company also faces possible regulatory challenges if it plans to sell the Neo in the United States or Europe.
Meanwhile, Apple and OpenAI continue developing their own AI hardware, including wearable devices, smart glasses, earbuds, and phone-like products. Their legal dispute has slowed the conversation around those launches, giving StepX a chance to introduce an AI-focused phone before either company reaches consumers.
