T-Mobile Retires Legacy Plans, Some Customers Face $4 Per Line Price Increase

by · OnMSFT

T-Mobile is retiring several older wireless plans, and many long-time customers will now move to newer plans that raise the average cost by about $4 per line. The change affects legacy options such as Simple Choice, ONE, ONE Plus, Magenta, and grandfathered Sprint plans.

T-Mobile Moves Customers To Newer Plans

The company is shifting customers from older plans to options such as Essentials, Essentials Saver, Experience More, Experience Beyond, and Better Value. T-Mobile says these newer plans offer better access to its 5G network, more hotspot data, wider international roaming support, and other updated features that older plans were not built to include.

However, the change arrives at a difficult time for loyal customers who stayed on older plans for stable pricing. While T-Mobile says some customers will see no bill change, others will see a modest increase after the move.

Verizon And AT&T Take A Different Route

The move also stands out because Verizon and AT&T have recently focused on cheaper and more flexible plans. Verizon’s Simplicity plans start at $45 per month and include unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband data, hotspot data, Canada and Mexico roaming, and satellite texting.

AT&T has also introduced Build-A-Plan, which lets customers choose a lower-cost base plan and add only the features they need.

T-Mobile says customers moved to modern plans will keep their current benefits while gaining improved network and service features, along with a five-year price guarantee.
