Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Fixes Its Biggest Problems

by · OnMSFT

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition gives the popular role-playing game the technical upgrade it always needed, with sharper visuals, smoother performance, and useful gameplay changes that make exploring Alrest far less frustrating.

The original Nintendo Switch version often struggled with low image quality, especially in handheld mode, while demanding battles sometimes pushed the frame rate below its 30 FPS target. The upgraded edition improves both areas and presents Rex and Pyra’s journey with much better clarity.

GVG and Nintendo Life comparison videos show that handheld resolution now reaches 1080p, compared with the original version’s range of roughly 378p to 540p. The game also runs at 60 FPS, which makes combat, movement, and camera transitions feel noticeably smoother.

Field Skills receive a major improvement

The updated Field Skills system brings one of the most useful changes in the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Players previously had to place specific Blades in their active party whenever an obstacle required a certain skill, which meant repeatedly opening menus and changing formations.

The new version checks every available Blade instead, provided the required skill meets the correct level. This change keeps exploration moving and removes one of the original game’s most awkward systems.

However, players should remain careful when scanning amiibo. Enel reported that certain scans can remove the third accessory slot unlocked during New Game Plus, which means returning players should avoid using amiibo until Nintendo fixes the issue.

Even with that bug, the visual, performance, and quality-of-life upgrades make this edition a strong purchase for newcomers and existing fans who want a smoother return to Alrest.
