OnePlus Reportedly Preparing to Exit the US and European Smartphone Markets

by · OnMSFT

OnePlus is reportedly preparing to stop smartphone operations in the United States and Europe, which would mark a major retreat for a brand that once gained attention through affordable flagship phones. The company has struggled to secure meaningful market share in regions where Apple and Samsung continue to dominate sales.

WinFuture reports that OnePlus plans to announce its exit from both markets in the coming days. The report claims that the company will stop launching new smartphones in the US and Europe, while existing stock will remain available until retailers sell through their remaining inventory.

The reported decision follows several signs that OnePlus has been reducing its presence across different countries. In some markets, the company has directed customers toward OPPO products, which suggests that its parent brand has started taking a larger role in sales and distribution.

OnePlus Lost Its Original Position

OnePlus entered the smartphone market in 2014 with the OnePlus One, which offered strong specifications at a much lower price than many premium phones. That strategy helped the company build a loyal audience among users who wanted high-end performance without paying Apple or Samsung prices.

However, OnePlus gradually moved toward more expensive devices and began competing directly with established premium brands. Rising memory and storage prices have also increased manufacturing costs, making it harder for smaller smartphone companies to maintain competitive pricing.

The report adds that OnePlus and OPPO will continue providing software updates for existing devices until their support periods end. The company has not clarified what the reported changes mean for India and China, where OnePlus still maintains a stronger presence.
