AMD Radeon RX 9050 Falls 20 to 30% Behind Nvidia RTX 5050 in Early Benchmarks

Early AMD Radeon RX 9050 benchmarks show that the new RDNA 4 graphics card struggles to compete with Nvidia’s entry-level GeForce RTX 5050 across several games and synthetic tests. The results raise concerns because AMD has priced the 8GB model close to Nvidia’s faster option.

Japanese outlet Hermita tested the Radeon RX 9050 8GB against the GeForce RTX 5050 8GB, which created a direct comparison between the two entry-level cards. Across most gaming tests, the RTX 5050 delivered a clear performance lead.

RX 9050 Trails in Gaming Tests

The Radeon RX 9050 ran around 23% to 27% slower in Final Fantasy XIV: Golden Legacy, while the gap reached nearly 26% to 30% in Apex Legends. Rainbow Six Siege X also favored the RTX 5050, with AMD’s card falling behind by around 20%.

The performance difference remained larger at medium settings, although the RX 9050 reduced the gap slightly when both cards used ultra settings. These results still place Nvidia ahead in the games that rely on standard rendering performance.

Synthetic benchmarks showed a similar pattern. The RTX 5050 scored 2,520 points in 3DMark Speed Way, while the RX 9050 reached 1,873 points. Nvidia also led in Steel Nomad, Port Royal, and Fire Strike, although AMD came closer in Time Spy.

AMD lists the Radeon RX 9050 at $279, while the RTX 5050 sells for around $300. Since Nvidia’s card delivers roughly 20% to 30% higher performance for a small price increase, the RTX 5050 currently offers the stronger value for entry-level PC builders.
