Snapdragon 8 Elite Hits 99% Stability With Extreme Dual CPU Cooler Mod
by Matt Lawrence · OnMSFTA heavily modified ZTE Nubia Z70 Ultra pushed the Snapdragon 8 Elite close to perfect performance stability by using two desktop CPU coolers attached to the front and back of the phone. The unusual setup helped the older flagship chip maintain almost the same score throughout two demanding 3DMark stress tests.
Reddit user “ntsow” shared the experiment using a Nubia Z70 Ultra with 24GB of RAM, although the original post has since been deleted. The modification placed large desktop cooling hardware around the phone to control heat and reduce the performance loss that usually appears during long benchmark runs.
Snapdragon 8 Elite reaches 99% benchmark stability
In the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, the phone recorded a best loop score of 6,641 and a lowest loop score of 6,575, giving it 99 percent stability. The Solar Bay Extreme Stress Test produced similar results, with a best loop score of 1,083, a lowest loop score of 1,074, and 99.2 percent stability.
These results allowed the modified Snapdragon 8 Elite to deliver stronger sustained performance than newer chips in several comparisons, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Apple A19 Pro, and MediaTek Dimensity 9500. Newer processors still produced higher peak scores in some tests, but their performance dropped more sharply as heat increased.
The experiment shows how much thermal limits affect smartphone processors during demanding workloads. Desktop CPU coolers are clearly impractical for normal phone use, but the setup reveals how much performance the Snapdragon 8 Elite can maintain when heat no longer restricts it.
A similar experiment used multiple SSD heatsinks on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, which reached 90 percent stability in the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test.
