Snapdragon X2 Elite Gets Unofficial eGPU Support With RTX 5070 Ti

The Snapdragon X2 Elite now appears to support external NVIDIA graphics cards through USB4, giving ARM laptop owners a way to improve gaming performance beyond the chip’s integrated GPU. The setup uses NVIDIA’s RTX Spark developer driver and an eGPU enclosure connected to a compatible USB4 port.

A Reddit user demonstrated the setup with a Snapdragon X2 Elite laptop and a desktop RTX 5070 Ti, showing that the unofficial method can run modern games at high frame rates. The system reached around 300 FPS in the Overwatch training range at 1440p, while regular matches delivered between 180 and 220 FPS.

How the unofficial eGPU setup works

Users need to download the RTX Spark Developer Driver, extract the installation file with 7-Zip, and open Device Manager. From there, they must locate the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, manually update the driver, choose the extracted NVIDIA folder, and select the NVIDIA Desktop Device option.

The same hardware combination also ran Persona 3 Reload at between 60 and 100 FPS in 4K, although GPU usage stayed near 20 percent. That low utilization suggests the unofficial driver still has compatibility or optimization problems.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter reached around 100 FPS at 4K with DLSS set to Performance. GPU usage reached 100 percent during this test, while CPU usage remained close to 10 percent.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite reportedly stayed below 4.30 GHz during testing, although the user did not confirm whether software limits or higher temperatures caused the lower clock speed. Since NVIDIA has not officially supported this setup, future driver updates could change or remove compatibility.
