Letter to the editor: Just say no to redistricting
· The Washington TimesOPINION:
Abigail Spanberger masqueraded as a moderate long enough to be elected Virginia’s 75th governor. Shortly after her inauguration, however, she came out of the closet and revealed her extreme, radical-left agenda.
Ms. Spanberger has railed against gerrymandering in the recent past but is now holding a special election on April 21 seeking a state constitutional amendment to redraw our congressional districts.
Early voting is underway. If successful, the Democrats will take Virginia’s 11 congressional districts — of which six are currently held by Democrats and five by Republicans — and flip them to 10 held by Democrats and just one held by Republicans.
This will turn Virginia deep blue, leaving 47% of U.S. citizens living in Virginia without representation, and potentially swing the balance of power in the House of Representatives. That would make Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries the speaker and unleash havoc on our nation.
I don’t believe that in their wildest dreams Virginians could have imagined that a vote for Ms. Spanberger was a vote for an extreme, radical-left social agenda, higher taxes, becoming a sanctuary state, weaker sentences for criminals or making elections less secure. Still, that’s exactly what the Democrats bamboozled Virginia into in November.
Now they are trying to snooker us into believing that disenfranchising half our population is in the best interest of our state and nation.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Let’s refuse to be their enablers and fools. Vote no on gerrymandering.
