DC Heroes & Villains Fest 2026 takes over Six Flags Great Adventure
by Joseph Szadkowski · The Washington TimesJACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — One of the largest theme parks on the planet once again hosts the most powerful beings in the galaxy with Six Flags Great Adventure’s DC Heroes & Villains Fest.
On select Friday-through-Sunday evenings, until Aug. 30, the live adventure begins with an early-evening parade entering the park’s Metropolis area and depositing Gotham City’s mayor, Superman and Wonder Woman at the site of a dedication ceremony for a new statue of Batman.
Lex Luthor secretly hijacks the event, using mind control on the mayor and unleashing Joker, Harley Quinn and Catwoman to seize the city.
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman fight back, while the villains spend the evening attempting to recruit citizens (Six Flags’ guests) to their side through skirmishes, music and performances.

The Justice League counters by encouraging those same citizens to become heroes, until the entire conflict erupts in the stunt-heavy Super Hero Smackdown, where the Justice League defeats the villains and Gotham’s safety is restored.
Throughout the evening, fans will interact with all of the above-mentioned heroes as well as Robin through meet-and-greets and mini dance parties centered around the Gotham-inspired stage flanked by video screens and with one massive statue of the Dark Knight standing watch over the proceedings.
Particularly impressive was the “Harley Quinn and the Hyenas” show. An energetic dance performance to some modern and loud, pumped-up tracks never verged on too mature for the younger audience (even belly buttons were covered up), but it was loaded with action and attitude.

The actress playing Harley worked in skits throughout the night, in sweltering early-evening heat, and her energy and movement remained spirited and dead on to the character throughout.
And fans who really love pop art brought to life will embrace the costume homages drawn from several eras of DC Comics’ sequential-art history.
Taking design cues from first artist Jim Lee’s update to the Justice League from 2011, visitors get a Superman (no red trunks, a more armored blue suit, higher neckline) and Batman (black armored suit, raised bat chest logo and cowl and golden utility belt) nearly plucked from colorful comics’ pages.
I was amused by the actor playing Superman, who had a boyish, Paul Reubens-looking face and a uniform that was pretty baggy, looking more like the Man of Steel in pajamas.
Veteran readers will recognize Wonder Woman’s red-and-gold Amazon armor and segmented blue battle skirt from the 2016 DC Rebirth redesign associated with artist Tony Daniel.

Robin, with red tunic, black leggings, green gauntlets and boots, black cape with yellow lining, green domino mask and yellow utility belt, looks derived from artist Frank Quitely’s 2009 series Batman and Robin.
Harley Quinn’s attire screams vintage punk roller derby queen from her 2013 series starring the art of Chad Hardin and featuring black-and-red short shorts, cropped corset, shin guards and boots, and wielding a bat.
Both Catwoman’s full-body black catsuit with goggles and a cat-ear cowl and the Joker’s traditional purple suit, orange shirt, green vest, tie and yellow flower were plucked from Mr. Lee’s 2002 Batman story arc “Hush.”
Worth noting that in a time when James Gunn’s DC cinematic universe continues to stumble, Six Flags partnership seems like an ideal way to offer increased exposure to beloved characters, and they relish those sequential art roots.

DC Heroes & Villains Fest really seems like the perfect opportunity to further dive into the DC canon with more extended live adventures, and why not offer appearances by Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Supergirl, Green Arrow, the Riddler, Two-Face and Brainiac.
Additionally, let’s not forget to mention a few of the thrill rides themed to the DC Comics universe and mostly open during a stormy night in New Jersey.
Justice League: Battle for Metropolis — Offering a perfect companion to DC Heroes & Villains Fest, this interactive 4-D dark ride gives guests the chance to step inside a DC Comics book and fight alongside Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, the Flash and Green Lantern against Lex Luthor and the Joker.
Armed with tethered laser blasters, guests board motion-based vehicles that move through elaborate physical sets, giant 3-D screens, practical special effects, and meet animatronic characters of Cyborg and the Joker while firing at targets such as robotic Lex Bots and racking up points along the way.

As the battle rages, the ride shifts back and forth between practical scenery and computer-generated action to deliver an immersive and overstuffed DC adventure.
Theme park lovers who have experienced Universal Orlando Resort’s The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and Men in Black: Alien Attack interactive rides will feel right at home alongside the Justice League.
Batman: The Ride — This compact but formidable inverted steel coaster sends riders through 2,693 feet of track and reaches a speed of 50 mph after climbing a 105-foot lift hill, with the train suspended beneath the rails and riders’ legs dangling freely.
The coaster repeatedly turns riders upside down, drives them through closely spaced twists and inversions, and exerts up to four times the force of gravity.

The ride should be called Batman Vengeance for its short bursts of violence on the human body … as Elvis might say, “yeah, yeah, I’m all shook up.”
Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth — Break out the adult diapers before getting on a 17-story (172-foot) tower attached to a pendulum that swings back and forth at speeds reaching up to 75 mph, with riders experiencing moments of complete weightlessness at the peak of each swing. It’s as insane as it sounds.
One caveat worth noting for the entire night was for those considering purchasing Six Flags’ enigmatic ticket for quicker access to rides: Its Fast Lane was obviously created by the Riddler.
The concept works much like the elder fast pass for Disney where a rider reserves a time for an attraction and comes back to get into a shorter line.
Requiring the mental prowess of Lex Luthor, a ticket holder purchases a Fast Lane pass using either the park’s mobile app or website and then, once inside the park, scans a Fast Lane QR code to enter the web platform, redeem their product and select a ride.
Adding to the complexity is the Fast Lane Ultimate that requires making a reservation for a ride, getting into a Fast Lane queue and showing the Ultimate barcode to have virtually no wait in line.
Those diving into the Fast Lane adventure should get to the park earlier and visit guest services and get hooked up correctly to make sure the system works.
