Letter to the editor: Government’s intruding on the church, not other way around
· The Washington TimesOPINION:
If you’ve had the misfortune of watching CNN, then you might think the greatest threat to America is the rise of Christian nationalism, with a looming theocracy trailing perilously in its wake. No word yet on whether the far-left network has any concerns about the influence of Shariah within our growing Muslim communities.
CNN laments that the church in America is becoming too political and needs to stay in its lane of saving souls and burying people. The problem, however, is not with the church becoming too political. It’s with politics intruding into areas that once were the domain of the church.
For years, issues such as marriage, sexuality, gender roles and the sanctity of life have provided fodder for the sermons delivered from our pulpits.
Many churches now steer clear of these issues to avoid giving offense. By doing so, they are failing to equip parishioners with the truth and the intellectual tools necessary to withstand the onslaught of values and philosophies vying for American souls.
In the Bible, dispensing justice and maintaining law and order are the primary duties of government. What the Biden administration did by allowing millions of unvetted illegal immigrants to pour across our border was irresponsible and a dereliction of duty.
Those who took advantage of his malfeasance certainly deserve compassion and humane treatment. Although the Bible calls on us to turn the other cheek when slighted, it is not the role of the government to do so when confronted with lawlessness and wrongdoing. That is not justice.
The status of those who came here illegally must be addressed. Restoring law and order to our country is neither fascism nor tyranny. If our friends on the left want open borders, then they should go to Washington and urge Congress on the matter instead of rioting, obstructing justice and calling everyone names.
