Chinese serve Trump crispy beef ribs, roast duck and seafood options in a lavish banquet

by · The Washington Times

Chinese President Xi Jinping feted President Trump on Thursday with a banquet menu that featured a mix of international favorites and Chinese specialties.

Notable items included crispy beef ribs and Beijing roast duck, a famous dish from the region.

The menu, as released by the White House, also included lobster in tomato soup, slow-cooked salmon in mustard sauce and stewed seasonal vegetables.

A pan-fried pork bun was served along with a “trumpet-shell-shaped pastry,” tiramisu, fruits and ice cream.

The variety of local and global tastes could be viewed as a nod to Mr. Trump’s preferences. He is known for enjoying well-done steaks and other simple comforts, such as fast food.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Xi are discussing serious business alongside the pageantry and high cuisine.

The Chinese side warned Mr. Trump that clashes over Taiwan, which Beijing considers a breakaway province, would harm economic ties between the nations.

Mr. Trump is urging Beijing, a strategic partner to Tehran, to take a bigger role in forcing Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil chokepoint, during the Middle East conflict that began on Feb. 28.
