Democrats don’t learn so much as double down to destroy

James Carville, Democrat strategist during the Bill Clinton presidential years and a lingering presence on the political stage, said he would consider leaving the party if far-left influencer Hasan Piker — who’s supporting Michigan’s Democratic Socialist of America pick for Senate, Abdul El-Sayed — becomes its leading force. Bill Maher, libertarian-leftist-atheist mouth of the night talk show circuit, meanwhile, said the new communist, antisemitic slant of the Democrat Party’s up-and-coming candidates has him thinking his vote, too. 

The problem with these guys, however, is the same problem with a lot of the Democrats who supposedly dislike the socialist-slash-communist turn the party’s taken in recent times — and that is simply this: Where have they been the last 20 years?

Anti-Israel, anti-Constitution, anti-capitalist El-Sayed didn’t spring overnight. Antisemite, anti-America, anti-Western society Piker didn’t drop into social media stardom on the single click of a mouse. Anti-freedom, anti-individualism, anti-God DSA didn’t sprout and spread by luck of a political draw.

These socialist and communist influences came after years of Democrats’ quests for power, both personally and for the party; after years of Democrats’ turning deaf ears to the warnings that came from even those within their own camp — warnings that spoke of the growing intolerance of the Dems for dissenting viewpoints, the growing tolerance of the Dems for violence masquerading as First Amendment expressions of speech, the growing embrace of the Dems for lunatic fringe ideas, like transgenderism.

Kirsten Powers, for more than a decade beginning in 2004, was a regular Fox News contributor for the leftist viewpoint, and then left to join CNN as part of its lineup of Democrat talkers. Even as a lifelong Democrat, she noted the left’s censor-happy way; in 2015, her book, “The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech,” was published.

It should have been a warning to the party.

But it wasn’t. Democrats blithely gave the boot off social media, out of public discourse, away from public life, if possible, any and all who questioned the government-approved narrative on COVID, COVID shots, COVID boosters, COVID-selected scientists. 

Warning ignored.

In 2008, the Democrat Party’s platform included language that stressed the importance of securing the nation’s borders. Hillary Clinton spoke about it. Barack Obama spoke about it. Sen. Charles E. Schumer spoke about it. And they all agreed — the party all agreed: Border control was both necessary and important.

“Democrats,” NPR wrote in one 2019 headline, “Used To Talk About ‘Criminal Immigrants,’ So What Changed The Party?”

The writing was on the wall; even Democrats knew the peril of leaving America’s borders wide open. Even Democrats understood the dangers of illegal border-crossers — the sex and human traffickers, the cartels, the gangs, the drains that could come to America’s tax-paid systems. They saw the potential vulnerabilities and problems and took warning.

That was then. Now?

“Democrats Have Reversed Their Opinion On Immigrants Since 1994,” NPR went on to report.

Warning ignored.

Or maybe it’s more this: Warnings willfully dismissed and disregarded.

And that gets back to the real reason some Democrats are now fighting the socialist-communist-antisemitic types: the consequences of their silence and inaction are hitting home. These socialists, these DSA-ers, these communists are seeing some success and are unseating longtime, long-standing, long-serving entrenched party loyalists. That has the entrenched worried. They don’t care so much about the country as they do about the painful reality of reaping what they’ve sown. 

Maher. Carville. Anxious Democrats speaking with one part concern and three parts anxiety about the DSA — anxiety because they know the DSA is coming for their seats. They all share the same singular common denominator of failing to speak up when it was important to speak up. They all could have seen the socialist-communist-antisemitic storm that was coming when it was in its beginning breezes. But they cared little because in their minds, the enemy was the Republican Party, or Donald Trump, or MAGA, or before that, the tea party, and they were willing to unite with these evil forces to destroy a common enemy.

Well, now they’re standing in the path of the enemy they helped create — and suddenly, they fear for their own futures.

And yet, they’re still willing to deal with the devil so long as it leads to the destruction of Trump, of MAGA, of America’s foundations.

“James Carville,” The Hill wrote a few days ago, “said David Hogg, former Democratic National Committee vice chair, should succeed current chair Ken Martin, calling the DNC ‘dysfunctional.’”

Hogg is an anti-Second Amendment zealot who cofounded a political action committee dedicated to electing youthful, energetic “progressives” — that is, socialists and communists — to various state and federal offices. On his website, he is pictured in what’s become the signature stance of the far-leftists who seek primarily to turn America into something unrecognizable, and largely, at least to freedom-lovers, undesirable: that is, arm raised, fist clenched. Another barely cloaked commie. The warnings are everywhere.

Democrats never think beyond their own selfish interests.
