Man fatally shot inside Midtown Manhattan subway station; no arrests made

by · The Washington Times

A man was shot and killed inside a Midtown Manhattan subway station Saturday afternoon, and no arrests had been made, Fox News reported.

The shooting occurred just after noon at the 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station, according to the New York Police Department. The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. He has not been publicly identified.

Police and fire officials responded to reports of shots fired, and the city’s Office of Emergency Management urged the public to avoid the area because of road closures and transit disruptions, ABC News reported.

Hassen Pinchback of Orlando, Florida, said he witnessed the incident and that everyone began running after gunshots rang out. “It was like a stampede,” he said. He said the shots came as the train doors opened and that a woman was performing chest compressions on the victim before police arrived.

Another witness, a woman from Washington state who gave only her last name, Miller, said she and her daughter heard about five shots while seated in a subway car with its doors open. She said her daughter stepped outside and the shooter looked directly at her before continuing to fire. Her daughter then signaled a conductor on another train, who called 911, she said.

The NYPD said the investigation is ongoing. PIX11 reported, according to Fox News, that the shooting stemmed from an argument between the shooter and the victim.
