Letter to the editor: Finally, fraud is being stopped

What if solving mysteries was as easy as it is on TV? A common theme appears on shows: A white board is covered with photos, chalk lines link suspects, squad room phones ring.
Then, though video footage shows no evidence, an investigator pages through a file and — voila! — an overlooked document appears. The crime is solved and an arrest is made. Tune in next week for another episode.
If only real life echoed the way TV mysteries are solved. Sadly, dishonesty, cunning and corruption runs rampant in the most trusted of our institutions, both public and private.
What if a few clicks on a search engine revealed financial wrongdoing? We might see that billions of our tax dollars were getting illegally siphoned off, solving the mysteries around annual budget deficits.
In reality, there are layers of deception masquerading as legitimate transactions. Our tax-money spigot pours billions into worthy-sounding entities hijacked by fraudsters in and out of government.
Finally, the administration in Washington is working to end the status quo of endless budget cycles that wash, rinse and repeat fraud. It’s about time!
