Letter to the editor: Investigate Mamdani now

· The Washington Times

OPINION:

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration reportedly violated the Logan Act, a move punishable by imprisonment.

It is also a violation of Mr. Mamdani’s oath of office and a clear violation of the Constitution of the United States, but it is not surprising.

In 2019, Secretary of State John Kerry clearly violated the law when he advised the Iranians to “wait out this administration” (i.e., the first Trump administration). Is he in jail? No. Was he fined? No. Was he indicted? No. He was quietly told that his actions were “beyond inappropriate.” There were no real consequences.

Anyone who believes that New York City Commissioner for International Affairs Ana Maria Archila scheduled a meeting with Iran’s United Nations ambassador without Mr. Mamdani’s permission or knowledge is deluding himself.

On the off chance that Mr. Mamdani did not know about the meeting, he is not smart enough or savvy enough to be mayor of New York City.

Either way, he should be investigated. He appears to align himself more with jihadis than the Constitution of the United States or the Constitution of New York.

Ms. Archila, who organized the meeting, should be dismissed from office for violating her oath of office and indicted for violations of the Logan Act and the Constitution.

If there are no consequences for treasonous behavior, we will get more of it. Democrats claim that “no one is above the law.” Unless, of course, you are one of them.
