Taylor Swift requests songs be removed from White House social media posts
by Juliet La Sala · The Washington TimesPop star Taylor Swift requested that her songs be removed from social media videos posted by President Trump’s campaign and the White House, which has used two of the superstar’s songs over the past week, news outlets report.
The songs include “August,” which Mr. Trump posted on TikTok accompanied by a statement from first lady Melania Trump: “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august.”
The Trump administration said in a later post, “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican party?” referencing her 2012 album “Red.”
One video caption drew on Ms. Swift’s lyrics and album titles to reference Trump administration policies, and a June post used her song “I Knew It, I Knew You” from “Toy Story 5” in a video showing Mr. Trump with children at a UFC match and at a campaign rally.
Ms. Swift has not spoken recently about Mr. Trump, though she endorsed his Democratic rival, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election.
During the 2020 campaign, Ms. Swift posted on social media that Mr. Trump was “WELL AWARE we do not want him as our president,” and Mr. Trump has repeatedly criticized Ms. Swift.
After Ms. Swift endorsed Ms. Harris, Mr. Trump posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” and later follow-up remark about her popularity.
Dozens of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have asked the Trump administration not to use their music.
