Trump sends $90 checks to 20 million senior citizens ahead of midterms
by George Caldwell · The Washington TimesPresident Trump has announced his administration will send millions of senior citizens $90 checks, and that much more money will come if Republicans win the midterms.
“My Administration will, immediately, begin sending ‘Checks’ of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums,” Mr. Trump wrote on social media on Friday night.
“This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless ‘Slush Fund’ that has only been used by Dumocrats in Congress to pay for the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse,” he wrote.

Congress established the fund in 2008 to allow the executive branch to spend on improvements to the federal health insurance program.
The White House’s fact sheet confirms that seniors will receive one-time $90 checks.
“Trump believes that Medicare Improvement Funds should be used to directly help people on Medicare, not special interests, and is returning healthcare dollars back into the hands of the American people,” it reads.
In the post, Mr. Trump also reiterated his promise of a $5,000 “dividend” for American citizens if Republicans win in the midterm elections.
He wrote that Americans “can also rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every U.S. Citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!”

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a think tank, estimates such a dividend would cost $1.2 trillion, a deficit increase “far more than all three COVID-era stimulus payments combined.”
The Friday announcement comes as the administration has also begun mailing $500 “refund checks” to nearly 1 million people enrolled in Obamacare, whom they say have been overcharged.
The refunds were mailed with a letter from Mr. Trump boasting about his healthcare policies.
“You have paid into this flawed System, and now you are finally getting something back,” he wrote in the letter.
